We do a lot to clean our house from dust but there is one thing that we forget and that is prevention from dust. Is it not a good idea to keep dust under control? Obviously we cant entirely eliminate dust from our home but there are certain methods and remedies that can significantly reduce the amount of dust that we breathe in every day. A good number of dust and dirt enters your house through the door on peoples feet. Therefore, it is important to use the right mats inside and outside of your home entrances to help cut down on dust particles entering your home.

It may seem a daunting task to keep the dust away, but here are a few tips that you can follow which will make it a lot easier to eliminate the amount of dust entering your home and will help cut down on cleaning time

Most of the dust is entering your house from outside. Consider placing a heavy duty walk-off mats at the door that traps dirt. These mats are usually made of nylon or olefin with a rubber back and are available in a variety of colors and sizes. Walk-off mats are so called because dirt is walked off before it gets in.

Regularly clean mats and rugs to avoid buildup of dust. You can use an all purpose cleaner to clean the mats. Make sure to let them completely dry before you put them to use in order to avoid moisture being trapped in the back of the mat.

Minimize the amount of knick knacks on display in room where you spend a lot of time. Decorations in your room will create more nooks and corners for dust to rest on.

Dust also enters your home through cracks around door and window frames. Therefore, seal air leaks to close off potential entrances for dust particles.

If possible switch to hardwood floors. Carpets traps dust and are difficult to clean whereas hardwood floors will allow dust to flow freely. Whether you have carpets at home or hardwood floors, remember to vacuum often to clean the floor.

Curtains and draperies can be the prime spots for dust to accumulate. Therefore, it is important to take proper care of them by giving them a routine thorough cleanup in order to reduce dust buildup.

If you have pets, make sure to groom them on a regular basis. Pets shed add to the dust and can be a nuisance to clean if you allow them to build up.

Get rid of unnecessary piles of magazines and book in your room. They have a tendency to attract dust if kept in an unkempt manner and will create a dusty atmosphere. Put books and magazines on bookshelves and paper items in a plastic bag so to avoid attracting dust.

Always keep your dirty shoes at the door. Have a different pair of shoes to use outside whenever you go out of your house. This way you do not let the dust from the shoes enter your house.

Dust, as much as it is inconvenient, is also hazardous since it acts as a sponge that can trap a wide range of pollutants. When released in the air it can give you allergic reactions over time.
